Imazighen: The Vanishing Traditions of Berber Women

As she has in her previous books, Ndebele: The Art of an African Tribe and African Canvas: The Art of West African Women, Margaret Courtney-Clarke turns her sensitive eye on women whose lives have seldom been observed. Her photos explore the remarkable arts and rapidly changing way of life of the Berber women of North Africa. 230 full-color photos.

"I bought this because I have a Berber friend and am interested in Mediterranean culture. The photography is very beautiful and gives insights into traditional women's work. The multi-generational images are particularly pleasing.
I looked at this book with my friend, who was delighted with the authenticity of the pictures of domestic interiors and traditional crafts, which she remembers from her childhood.
This is a timely reminder that it is possible to live a happy life without mindless consumerism, and that the development of mass tourism often destroys what a society most values."
