The endlessly creative Pinkney family, most notably Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Award-winning artists Jerry and Brian Pinkney, has produced a devotional picture book illustrating 22 traditional spirituals. The songs are separated into three themes--"Adoration," "Spiritual Wayfarers," and "The Good Shepherd"--and each is accompanied by an appropriate psalm. Favorites include "Old-Time Religion," "We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder," and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." The book includes Jerry Pinkney's sensational watercolors, Myles C. Pinkney's touching color photographs, and Brian Pinkney's cheerful paintings. Includes a CD of all the songs, performed by Gloria Pinkney.
